How our trading card maker works

A trading card is a small design with a lot of information on it: a picture, a name, some numbers and a few words of flavor. Most card tools either give you a blank canvas and make you place every box yourself, or lock you into a single layout. Our trading card maker sits in between. You choose the content, and a template places everything neatly, so every card in your set looks like it belongs together.

1. You write the card

Each card has a name, a type or role line (such as “Fire Scout”), a rarity, a badge (for example HP, a level, a cost or a jersey number) and an emoji icon. You can add up to six stats, an ability with a title and text, an italic flavor line, an artist credit, a custom number and a footer note. Fields you leave empty simply disappear from the card, and long text is shrunk or shortened with an ellipsis so it never spills outside its box.

2. You add and position a picture

Paste an image address, upload a picture from your device, or choose one from your Media Library if you’re signed in with permission to upload. Then drag the picture on the preview to move it and scroll over it to zoom, so the part you care about sits in the frame. There are also sliders for fine control.

3. You choose a template and style

There are eight templates, each with its own frame, pattern and layout: Prism, Neon Grid, Heritage, Clean, Pitch, Aura, Arcade and Obsidian. Every template starts with its own palette, and you can change the background, frame, accent, text and panel colors, the font, and how stats are shown (bars, chips or a list).

4. You pick a rarity and foil

Rarity runs from Common to Legendary and shows as a label with gems at the bottom of the card. Holo foil can be off, subtle, on every card, or scaled by rarity so only your rare cards shimmer. On screen, foil cards catch the light when you move your pointer over them.

5. You design the back

The whole set shares one card back, with your own title, tagline and an optional emblem image. When you print double-sided, the back goes behind every card.

Make a whole set quickly

Designing one card is fun. Designing forty is work. Use Duplicate to copy a card and change just the details, and the arrow buttons to reorder. For bigger sets, download the CSV template, fill in one row per card in a spreadsheet, and import it. Each row can hold the name, type, rarity, badge, icon, picture address, ability, flavor text, artist and up to six stats written like Speed:85. You can add the imported cards to your set or replace it, and you can export your set back to CSV at any time.

Cards are numbered automatically (3/40), or you can type your own numbers, or hide them.

Printing trading cards that line up

Choose A4 or US Letter and place 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 or 9 cards per page. With nine per page, each card prints at about 62.7 × 87.5 mm, a hair under the common 63 × 88 mm trading card size, so it fits standard card sleeves. Cards have thin dashed lines to cut along.

If you include backs, the maker prints a page of fronts followed by a page of backs. The back pages are mirrored so every back lands behind its own front. In your printer settings, choose two-sided printing and flip on the long edge. Print one test page first to check how your printer lines up the two sides.

Besides printing, you can download a PDF of the same layout, save any single card as a PNG (front or back), or download every card as a ZIP of PNG files. The PNG files have transparent rounded corners, which is handy if you want to use the cards in another design tool or an online game board.

Everything is created in your browser, and the PDF pages are saved as images. That keeps your design exact, but it means the text inside the PDF cannot be selected or copied.

Tips for designing better trading cards

  • Keep the picture simple. A clear subject that fills the frame reads better on a small card than a busy scene.
  • Short text wins. Two or three lines of ability text are easier to read at card size than a paragraph.
  • Balance your stats. If every card has high numbers, none of them feels special. Give each card a strength and a weakness.
  • Make rarity feel rare. A set with mostly Commons and only a handful of Legendary cards is more exciting to collect.
  • Stay consistent. Use one template and one set of colors for the whole set. Change the picture and the accent only when it means something.
  • Check readability on paper. Print a single sheet before you print the whole set.

A note on artwork and ownership

This tool is not tied to any trading card game, and the templates and sample cards are original. Only upload pictures you made or have the right to use, and avoid copying the characters, names or artwork of existing games or brands.

About this trading card maker

What we store, and for how long

  • If you only design, print and download: your cards stay in your browser and are not saved on our server.
  • If you save a set: the card text, design and picture addresses are stored under a random public link. Guest sets are removed automatically after [180] days without changes. Sets owned by logged-in users are kept.
  • Your pictures: a picture from your device is not stored on the server unless you are signed in and it is saved to the Media Library. Otherwise it works on your screen and in your downloads, but is left out of a saved set.
  • In your browser: the key that lets you edit a saved set is kept in your browser’s local storage on your device.

Shared set pages are set not to appear in search results.

Honest limits

A set can have up to [120] cards. Pictures from other websites can appear on screen, but they only go into PDF and PNG files if that website allows it; pictures from your own site always work. Each set uses one template, and cards are static (no animation). We would rather you know that now than discover it the night before your game.

questions, answered.

What is a trading card maker?

It’s a tool for designing collectible cards. You enter the details, such as a name, picture, stats and rarity, and the tool lays them out on a card template that you can print, download or share.

How do I make my own trading cards?

Fill in a card, choose a template, then add more cards to build your set. When you’re done, print them, download a PDF or PNG files, or save the set and share the link.

What size are the printed cards?

With nine cards per page, each card prints at about 62.7 × 87.5 mm, just under a standard 63 × 88 mm trading card, so they fit normal card sleeves. Other layouts print larger.

Can I print the backs so they line up?

Yes. Choose to include backs, and print double-sided with “flip on long edge”. The back pages are mirrored so each back sits behind its front. Test with one page first.

Can I use my own pictures?

Yes. Use an image address, upload from your device, or choose from the Media Library when signed in with permission to upload. Drag the picture to position it and scroll to zoom.

Can I make many cards at once?

Yes. Download the CSV template, fill in one row per card, and import it. You can also duplicate cards and edit just what changes.

What do the rarity levels do?

Rarity is a label with gems on each card, from Common to Legendary. If you choose “holo foil by rarity”, higher rarities also get a stronger shimmer.

Do I need an account?

No account is needed to design, print and download. Saving a set gives you a public link and a private edit link to keep.

Can I use these cards to sell a game?

You are responsible for the artwork and text you add, so only use material you own or are licensed to use. The templates themselves are original, but check this site’s terms before commercial use.
